Project title: “Specialised cruise ship, equipped with hybrid drive, of increased functionality due to the installation of underwater windows with lids, enabling observation of flora and fauna”.
Grant agreement no.: POIR.01.02.00-00-0013/18 of 12.03.2019.
Project summary:
The subject of the project is a specialized vessel for tourist purposes, with hybrid drive, with increased functionality thanks to the installation of underwater windows with lids enabling observation of flora and fauna. The project focuses on conducting research and development works, including verification of the general concept of a tourist vessel with windows placed on the ship’s side, in the submerged part (hereinafter referred to as “underwater windows”) and technical documentation of the underwater/observation part of the ship’s hull, consisting of windows and hermetic closing guards (hermetic covers) protecting the windows against mechanical and biological hazards. It should be emphasized that the vessel will use a hybrid drive, which will have a positive impact on the environment. Moreover, the ship’s superstructure will be built of 3D curved glass (4 x stronger than flat glass).
The research will concern:
Selection of materials and geometry of structural nodes of hermetic covers and closing system for weight reduction based on strength calculations.
Dynamic tribological phenomena occurring during closing and opening of side openings by means of covers.
Processes of sealing connections between moving structural elements.
The result of the project will be, among others
Development of documentation verifying the conceptual design of a tourist ship with hybrid drive with an underwater window protection system based on the use of tight side covers.
Technical documentation of the underwater/observation part of the ship’s hull, including the underwater window protection system based on the use of tight side lids.
Construction of a prototype structure consisting of a fragment of the ship’s side, window and closing lid, designed for testing strength and tribological issues in conditions similar to the real ones.
